I have worked in Financial Services for the last twelve years and at the beginning of 2016 decided that enough was enough and re-trained as a Matt Pilates Teacher Level 3 but I have been practicing Pilates since 2009. Initially I took this up as I suffer from ankylosing spondylitis (AS) as it was recommended for me to help improve my mobility. As well as suffering from (AS), I also have other autoimmune diseases such as Chron’s Disease, Iritis, Fibromyalgia, and Lupus. In 2007 I struggled to get out of bed each morning and to walk twenty feet; as you can imagine this was highly frustrating for someone in their mid twenties , especially as I used to be very sporty.
By 2008 I was put on a new drug where I had to go on an fusion (drip) every six weeks. This drug turned my life around and by 2009 I had started practising Pilates.
My classes are driven from these experiences and wanting to help people of all ages abilities and disabilities and to bring people together in community. I also aim to obtain the Pilates lower back qualification so I can work more closely with Arthritic patients.
I am also a great believer in alternative medicine and healing techniques and over the last fifteen years if not longer, I have tried pretty much everything to support both physical and mental well being. However, the one practice that has helped and stayed with me the longest is that of Reiki. So much so, that I have trained in this and I am now a level 1 Practitioner and I am looking to further extend studies in this areas in order to help both myself and other people.
In my spare time I love to run and have completed a couple of marathons in aid of Arthritis Research. Yet I am still on the quest to balance green juice and wine – any ideas please feel free to share with me!
